As I said previously, I met "this (or that) guy," and his wife, who I will only refer to as this or that guy or he/him/his for reasons that will should become obvious. I think I almost specifically tried to not remember his name, so I could tell his story later, without using his name. He and his wife seemed like great people and we were really enjoying the beerfest and the company. Apparently, after the beerfest, he told his wife he was going for a walk, just before the boat was leaving the dock. His wife assumed he meant around the ship, but he meant around the town. He did not use his card pass to check out of the ship. You know where this is headed. He missed the boat. His wife was searching all over the boat for him in a panic. Meanwhile, he was in Passau trying successfully to borrow/hijack someone's phone to call Viking Cruise Line. Eventually he got through, and around 40 minutes after we set sail the Captain turned the boat around, and we went back to pick him up. I snapped my picture of him waiting at the dock before I put two and two together that this was the guy I had been talking to earlier. We then proceeded back on our journey, at perhaps a slightly faster rate of speed, and I didn't see him or his wife for the rest of the evening. However, I did see them on almost every excursion after that. I told him that he was going to have the best story when he got home. At first he was not amused. He said he was so upset and embarrassed that he couldn't even eat that night. I told him that tragedy plus time equals comedy. It's not an exact algebraic equation. I mean comedy minus tragedy does not equal time. Einstein might be annoyed (or amused) if one tried to make that claim, but you know what I mean. The further along we got on the trip, the more and more he warmed up to the idea that this was indeed a great story. He said his wife was already relishing telling their kids. The Captain told him that he had never turned the boat around for anyone before. You missed the boat! That's on you! But "that guy" pulled it off, and now he's got a comedic story to prove it. It's my favorite story of the trip, and it's not even mine!
